| A car share club is ideal for someone that does not use a car very often, but wants the flexibility of having one available for the times that they do. With the Car Share Club, you get the benefit of access to a car when you need it, without the hassle of buying, servicing, taxing, insuring, MoTing, and maintaining it. |
| The car share club is operated by the Clean Energy Centre, and currently has one car (a Peugeot 206 diesel) which is available for the use of the members of the club. As more members join the club, additional cars will be obtained. |
| Membership of the club works as follows: |
| • | You pay 35p per mile for any mileage you do. This includes the cost of fuel - you do not pay extra for fuel. This figure is reviewed from time to time to make sure that the club is covering its costs. |
| • | There is an online calendar to book the times you need it for. You log on and register the times that you want to use the car |
| • | The car is parked in the centre of town (in the Gravel car park, opposite the Post Office). We give you a key for a secure key locker near the car where the car key is stored. You turn up, take the key from the locker, and drive off in the car |
| • | You record the start and end mileage in the log book that is left in the car |
| • | At the end of each month, we add up how many miles each person has done, and bill for the mileage at 35p/mile |
| • | To discourage people from booking it out for long periods of time but not actually doing many miles (thus preventing other people from making use of it), we work out a time charge at 60p/hour. If this is greater than the mileage charge, you are charged the time charge instead |
| The club works on a membership basis. To become a member is easy: |
| • | You can join if you are over 25, have less than 6 points on your driving licence and have had no accidents in the last 5 years |
| • | You pay a deposit of £100, which covers the excess on our insurance. If you have an accident, or damage the car, this deposit will be used to pay the insurance excess or repair the damage. You will then have to pay another £100 deposit before you can use the car again. If you have no accidents, your deposit will be returned to you when you leave the club. |
| • | You fill in a membership application form and we take a copy of your driving licence for our records. |
| • | When you join, we give you access to the online booking calendar and give you access to where the car key is stored. |
| • | As more members join and the car gets used more, additional cars will be purchased. |
| • | You are responsible for any speeding fines or traffic violations that you make while driving the car. |
| • | To enquire about joining, contact Jeremy via the details on the "Contact Us" page |
